Indications for root canal treatment

Strict indications are necessary for the treatment of dental canals. The most common of them are:

• inflammation of the dental nerve (pulpitis). The main symptom is a painful reaction to changes in temperature or taste
• periodontitis – inflammation of the tooth root. Symptoms: pain when touching the tooth, reaction to heat;
• deep decay. During the treatment of tooth decay, the doctor may notice deep damage to the tooth;
• sensitivity, swelling, discoloration of the gums near the tooth;
• Fistulous tracts - Occasional or permanent formations on the gums. This is a consequence of periodontitis;
• before making prostheses or crowns.

If the treatment is not carried out in time, the affected tooth must be removed. In this case, implantation or other tooth replacement options can be considered (e.g. prosthesis or bridge)

The process of root canal treatment

Problems usually require several treatments to resolve. Root canal treatment includes:

• control and diagnosis. The dentist checks the extent of the lesion on an X-ray;
• selection of treatment methods and preparation;
• endodontic treatment (anesthesia, preparation, removal of the affected pulp and nerve). Channel cleaning and treatment, disinfection;
• restoration (canal filling, crown part restoration with filling or inlay).

The treatment takes approximately 30-60 minutes depending on the number of root canals.
